Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript in black ink in white paper. In the head- spine corner there is a small checkmark next to the number "12," both written in pencil. Just below this, the phrase "From Abby & Julia Smith afterwords famous for the seizure of their cows for non-payment of taxes" is also written in pencil Along the head edge of the page there is a large "X" while along the head- fore edge, below the date, the number "1837" is written large and in pencil. On the verso, the letter is addressed to "Mr William L Garrison Boston" and along the spine edge there is a red, circular seal.Abby Hadassah Smith writes to William Lloyd Garrison enclosing ten dollars (not included) to pay for continuing her subscription to the Liberator as well as "some testimony of our sympathy with you in your trials & sufferings for the poor slave." Smith states that while she may not agree with all of Garrison's religious views, she agrees with his opinions about the Sabbath. She also invites Garrison and his wife to visit Glastonbury to improve his health. Smith ends the letter by requesting Garrison encourage the Grimke sisters to "take Connecticut on their way to New York as we intend going to the Anniversary of the A.S." The letter is then signed by "A & J Smith," Abby Hadassah Smith, and her sister, Julia Evelina Smith.
