Description

Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.Sarah Mapps Douglass, secretary of the Female Literary Association, writes to William Lloyd Garrison asking a question "at the request of the members present at the last meeting". They ask if "any person forbid the publication of the copy of the constitution of the F[emale] L[iterary] A[ssociation] forwarded to you by our friend Mr. Hinton." Douglass insists that "no one (except myself) had any right to forbid it" and explains that they wished the constitution to be published as it might provide an example for "our sisters of other Cities ... to form a similar association." Douglass also tells Garrison that "many and fervent are the prayers daily offered for the preservation" of Garrison and his partner in publishing the Liberator, Isaac Knapp.
