Description

List of shareholders in the Sierra Leone Company, with a circular letter signed by J.R. Williams. The Company was founded in 1791 by Granville Sharp, William Wilberforce, and others, to establish a colony on the west coast of Africa for runaway slaves who had found asylum in London. Fragments from printed documents, including: two appendices (lists of members of the Sierra Leone Company (4p. ; 1 sheet)) ; and a generic letter addressed to potential investors in the Sierra Leone Company, signed, "J.R. Williams, solicitor and secretary," "Sierra Leone House 29 March 1792" (1 sheet).
