Sylvan, President; lamenting in his twenty years as a telephone subscriber, "I have never seen or heard of a colored person's being employed by any telephone company in America" and asking that Sylvan "consider the employment of colored girls in your telephone exchanges and of colored men in the skilled and semi-skilled work of your organization."
