Video clip of Mildred McDaniel speaking about her plan to win the gold medal at the 1956 Olympic Games. She describes that she wanted to be a low-profile competitor so the two best-known contenders would only watch each other. She states that she was confident that she could win, especially if few people had prior knowledge of her skills. McDaniel won an Olympic gold medal and set a world record in the high jump in 1956. She was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 1983 and the National Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1983.
