Description
A prominent political activist, Angela Davis was associated with the Black Panthers and the Communist Party while a graduate student at University of California San Diego. She became a professor at University of California, Los Angeles where then California Governor Ronald Reagan attempted to bar her from teaching because of her communist associations. She later became a professor at San Francisco State University and University of California, Santa Cruz, where she retired from. In this speech given at California State University, Sacramento in honor of Black History Month, Davis discusses President Reagan's silence on the increase of racial problems in the U.S., high unemployment, homelessness, the need for national healthcare, and the need for a strategy against the AIDS epidemic.
