Description

Pinn Family clothespin dolls Made by Emily T. Myers of Mahtomedi, Minn., circa 1940-50s. Likely purchased at the Minnesota State Fair. Includes a large African American family set, a small African American couple, and a large white male. The heads are made of oval wooden balls and the bodies are wooden blocks. The arms and legs are round wooden clothespins and the feet are made of 3/16 inch slats that are rounded on the front and back and then nailed to the round end of the clothespins. The larger dolls have bending knees with knee joints made of nails curled back. All the dolls have wool yarn glued to the heads, and written on the bottom of each foot is "1949" along with a stamp, on the right foot, that reads "PATENTED"
