Description
Deed of manumission dated December 22, 1859 by Edward and Mary C. Hammond of Howard County, Maryland for the Negro child named Bessy owned by Mary C. Hammond. Witnessed by R. Brooks, J. Mackubin, and Justice of the Peace J. G. Worthington and recorded by Howard County clerk W. W. Watkins, the document identifies Bessy as the child of Becky, both of whom were bequeathed to Mary C. Hammond by her mother, Mrs. Eleanor Mackubin. Bessy is to be set free January 1, 1869. (Editor's note: Blank page 3 was not scanned and thus is not included.)
