Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.On verso, the delivery address is "Mrs. Charlotte Phelps, Farmington, Conn." It was postmarked, "ROCHESTER, N.Y., AUG 31."Amos A. Phelps writes to his wife, Charlotte, that they will be able to go neither to the West nor to the West Indies in the winter. They will find another place to stay together. He says he wrote to Wright that he may have to give up his post with the American Anti-Slavery Society unless he could be with his family. He says he may find a temporary job somewhere. After describing his activities, he says “[antislavery] cause will never triumph without the shedding of martyr blood.”
