Description
Image of a portrait of Horace Ward. He wears a suit and red tie and faces forward. In 1950 Ward became the first African American to challenge the racially discriminatory practices at the University of Georgia. Although Ward's efforts were not successful, his case helped to lay the groundwork for desegregation of the university.
