Description

Wendell Paris is standing on the left, and WRMA news director Norman Lumpkin is beside him (facing the building); Southern Courier photographer Jim Peppler is visible behind the car on the right. Stokely Carmichael addressed the audience during the meeting; he was arrested after shouting "Black Power!" at a passing police car. The incident was discussed in the article "For the People of Prattville" by Sandra Colvin and Franklin Howard, which appeared on page 1 of The Southern Courier for June 17-18, 1967. The issue is available online (not on the ADAH website): http://www.southerncourier.org/low-res/Vol3_No25_1967_06_17.pd
