The agreement is in consideration of the sum of $1. Witnessed by William Clark on May 18, 1843 and recorded by Howard County clerk W. H. Between N Worthington of John and Negro Lydia. of Deliv[eri]ng her children to her". (Editor's note: In 19th century Howard County, using the first initial of the father's first name, as in Nicholas Worthington "of John", or an abbreviation of that first name was common practice if there were other persons with the same name, especially in various generations of the same family. Also, in 1843, Howard County was known as the Howard District of Anne Arundel County, Maryland Howard County was officially designated a county on June 14, 1851.)
