Description

The Monroe Police Department welcome Gantt who gives a speech on the importance of community policing and the relationship between the community and law enforcement as familial. Gantt emphasized that although violent criminals should be behind bars, policies should not manufacture new criminals. Positive community policing activities described include engaging kids in afterschool activities and familiarizing them with the institutions of their community. After the speech, Gantt answers questions from the audience. Two separate recordings that include Gantt take place on this tape, beginning at at 14:05, (long pause) and 25:35.
