Microfilm Reel 1 of The Papers of William Henry Harrison, contains official documents, correspondence, and other papers dating from December 2, 1799-October 30, 1804. Notable correspondents in this reel include John Adams, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, and Henry Dearborn. Significant events that occurred during the dates covered include Harrison's appointment as governor of the new Indiana Territory by President John Adams, the creation of the Indiana Territory, Harrison's additional appointment as the Administrator of the District of Louisiana (a portion of the Louisiana Purchase), and the signing of treaties with the Native American tribes of Delaware, Eel River, Kaskaskia, and Piankashaw.
