Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands reviewed labor contract between landowners and Montgomery County, Alabama freedmen. This record has been transcribed as follows:Office Sub-Assistant Commissioner, Bureau R., F. & a. L., Sub-District of Montgomery, Montgomery, Ala., January 18th, 1868 Article of agreement made and entered into between S N Yeoman & Co. & W. A. Lightfoot of the 1st part and the undersigned freedmen of the 2nd part[.] The nature of their agreement is this[:] the undersigned freedmen agree to work faithfully for the parties of the 1st part during the year 1868 to obey all reasonable orders and to receive for their labor Ten Dollars per month of twenty six days and one ration per weak[sic] of three pounds of meat and peck of meal the money to be paid on or before January 1st, 1869 the parties of the second part agree that iff[?] in the opinion of the parties of 1st part they forfeit this contract that the parties of the second part forfeit all claims for services rendered by W Roebuck & Co William Simmons[?] Thomas Burk
